Atlantic Cape Community College Library Borrowing & Circulation Policies

The Atlantic Cape Community College Libraries grant borrowing privileges to Atlantic Cape and Rutgers at Atlantic Cape students, faculty, and staff, as well as Atlantic and Cape May County residents. Library users must abide by the guidelines set forth by the College.

Students, faculty and staff must present a valid college ID  in order to borrow library materials. Atlantic County and Cape May County residents (community borrowers) must provide a valid photo state-issued ID. Anyone borrowing materials must complete a Library User Agreement.

Items and Loan Periods

  • Items can be picked up and returned to any of the three campus libraries.

  • There is no limit to the number of materials that can be borrowed.

  • Physical library books circulate for four weeks.

  • The circulation period for ebooks varies.

  • Periodicals and magazines circulate for two weeks.

  • Course reserves can be used in the library for two hours, renewable upon request, if available.

  • Interlibrary loans are available for students, faculty and staff. Renewals are available on a case-by-case basis.

  • ESL reserve novels circulate for the length of the course.

  • Reference materials generally do not circulate, but on a case-by-case basis, a librarian can make an exception.

  • Laptops can be checked out to current Atlantic Cape or Rutgers at Atlantic Cape students for use in the library. A current student ID must be presented, along with a completed Laptop User Agreement form. Laptops are available for two hours. Students may extend the time for an additional two hours as long as there is no one waiting.

  • Calculators and headphones can be checked out for in library use with a valid library card for two  hours.

Renewals

  • Items from the circulating collections can be renewed twice, for four weeks each time, provided that they are not on hold for someone else, and that the user’s library card is in good standing. Renewal of interlibrary loans (property of another library) are at the discretion of the owning library. Renewal requests must be made at least a week in advance of the date the item is due. If the request is denied, items must be returned by the original due date.

Holds

Holds for materials can be placed with a library card that is in good standing. When the item is available, a phone call or email will be sent with pick up information.

Fees and Policies for Overdue/Lost/Damaged Items

Borrowers are responsible for the proper use and timely return of the library materials that they have checked out. The college libraries do not charge fees for late materials. However, fees will be assessed for damaged or lost material. Borrowers are encouraged to replace the item and should speak to a librarian for assistance.

If materials checked out by students are lost, damaged, or not returned by the due date, library and college privileges will be suspended until all materials are returned or replaced. This may include placing a hold on the Atlantic Cape student account, which will prevent registration for classes until the hold is removed.

If materials checked out by faculty and staff are lost, damaged, or not returned by the due date, library privileges will be suspended until all materials are returned or replaced.

If materials checked out by community members are lost, damaged, or not returned by the due date, privileges will be suspended and the Atlantic County Library System will charge the community member.
