Library Services: Library Instruction

Describes services available from the libraries at Atlantic Cape.
Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.

The Library Instruction Program at Atlantic Cape

Learning to find, evaluate, and use information effectively is a core component of a college education. Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges both articulate information literacy as a required component of general education. Atlantic Cape librarians collaborate with faculty to provide students with opportunities to acquire the skills and knowledge they need in order to navigate our complex information universe.

  • Faculty can book library instruction sessions for classes held on any Atlantic Cape campus, or remotely.
    • Instruction is tailored to the class.
    • Students learn the most when there is an assignment or activity that supports and reinforces the material covered in the session.
    • The session should be scheduled to coincide with the assignment or activity. For research projects, it's best if the students have selected topics and are ready to begin searching for sources.
  • Preparing an instruction session requires time. Please place your request for library instruction at least one to two weeks in advance of your preferred date(s). Placing requests early in the semester raises the probability of being getting your first choice of dates.
  • In order to plan an effective session, librarians need to know about your class and their assignments/activities. Please be prepared to share information about your assignment or activity, and about your objectives for the session(s).
  • You should plan to be present and participating during the library instruction session. Your participation helps your students to learn.
