Help using library services

Welcome to the library

Welcome to the libraries of Atlantic Cape. Many of our services are available through the library website

  • Use the pages of this guide to learn about the various services provided by the libraries which are available to all current students, faculty and staff of Atlantic Cape.
  • Visit the libraries to study, do your research, and meet with classmates during regular library hours.
  • Meet with librarians and tutors for help with your course work, research, and writing.
  • Online tutoring is available 24/7 through brainfues logo, a tutoring & help service for subjects in health sciences and nursing, computers, finance, accounting, and economics. 
    • Access Brainfuse® from your student Blackboard account. Look for Tutoring Services in My Institution course listing.
    • Contact the library staff for additional information.
  • The Spangler Library at the Mays Landing campus is also home to the Atlantic Cape Community College Art Gallery

Services of the Atlantic Cape libraries

► Research Assistance

  • Reference librarians can provide assistance with your research project from choosing a topic, to locating appropriate information and properly formatting your citations.

► Reference services

  • A reference librarian is available to assist you in utilizing the resources of the library. The librarian can provide answers to specific questions, advise and help with bibliographic sources and consult on research projects. Feel free to ask for help.

► Tutoring

Atlantic Cape Community College's tutoring services are available to all students, free of charge. Students can meet with a tutor at any campus library, or online any time through the brainfues logo service.

► Borrowing Stuff

Your library card (activated college id card) is used to borrow (for up to 3 weeks) books from any Atlantic Cape library, including the special Atlantic County Library System Library In A Library collection, located in the Spangler Library, Mays Landing Campus.

Visit the library to register your ID for borrowing privileges.

Your library card is required to :

  • Borrow a laptop computer, for use in the library.
  • Borrow calculators.
  • Borrow a headset for private listening while in the library..

► Print Resources

The libraries at Atlantic Cape contain 80,000+ volumes covering all of the subjects taught at the College. All campus libraries also contain a large collection of reference and special collections for use in the library, including:

  • General encyclopedias, all campuses
  • Subject specific encyclopedias, all campuses
  • Large print books, all campuses
  • Nursing collection, Spangler Mays Landing
  • Hoffman Culinary Collection, Spangler Mays Landing
  • ESL collection, Worthington Atlantic City
  • Atlantic County historical materials, Spangler Mays Landing

Advanced Search

Course Textbook Reserves

  • Many instructors make course materials, and some course textbooks available to students. Ask at the circulation desk for materials on reserve for your courses. Reserve materials may only be used inside the library. You will need your current semester school ID card to use these materials. Check the Course Reserve Collection guide for more information

e-Textbooks

Due to publisher restrictions, most standard digital textbooks cannot be made available online by the library.

Access Codes

Access codes are not available from the libraries.

  • Your access code may be included with your print edition
  • Sent to you by email when your purchase is confirmed.
  • May be provided by the instructor for the class.

If the access code was not issued to you, or if it does not work, please contact the bookstore

► Electronic Resources

  • The libraries of Atlantic Cape subscribe to a number of electronic resources. These can be accessed from any computer on campus as well as from off campus

Login required for off campus access  Off Campus access username and password can be found in Blackboard on the Institution Page. Students: look for Student Tools to Stay Connected at Atlantic Cape. Faculty: look for Key information about Libraries and Tutoring. Or you can contact the library for username and password.

► Interlibrary Loan

Did you find an article not available in full text? How about a book not owned by Atlantic Cape or the Atlantic County Library System

All is not lost. The library may be able to get your article or book from another library. The Interlibrary loan service is free to all current students, faculty and staff of Atlantic Cape.

  • Don't wait too long to make your request.
  • Send your request(s) to : library@atlantic.edu

Please be sure to provide as complete a citation as possible, so the lending library can quickly locate your request.

Interlibrary Loan for Books

  • Loan periods for books are set by the lending library. 

In the Atlantic Cape libraries

► Policies for :

  • Use of the study rooms
    • The study rooms can be used by individual students or small groups. No advanced reservations are required. Some of the rooms do contain special collections for use by students, faculty and staff.
  • Use of library computers
    • All libraries of Atlantic Cape have open computers for use by students, faculty, staff and community visitors for library related use only. Do not save files or attempt to install software on these computers. Save your work to a flash drive, cloud storage or use email to send files. All files saved to these computers will be deleted. No login is required. 
  • Use of computer labs
    • All libraries of Atlantic Cape have computer labs for library instruction sessions, faculty classes or other presentations.
  • Loss/damage/Overdue materials
    • The libraries of Atlantic Cape do not charge for overdue materials. Holds or delay in your graduation or receipt of college transcripts can occur until your library account has been cleared. You may be charged for the cost of replacement or repair of library materials. Please notify library staff when an item has been lost or damaged. 
  • Laptops available at all campus libraries
    • Students my borrow laptop computers, for use in the library only. Your student ID card is required along with the signed Laptop Lending User Agreement provided by library staff at the circulation desk.
  • Use of other borrowed equipment (calculators, headphones ...)
    • Your current student ID card is required to borrow calculators and headphones for use in the library.

► Library Instruction

Your instructor can schedule a customized library instruction session to help with your project or assignment by contacting the library.

► Printing - Copying - Scanning

Black & white and color printers, and scanners are available in all libraries at no cost.

► Printing

  • Printing is free at this time. The library reserves the right to reinstate charges if it is deemed necessary. Consult with library staff for color printing.

Photocopy

  • Please use our scanners to reproduce documents. Photocopiers are no longer available.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this equipment is liable for any infringement

► Scanning

  • There is no charge to use the scanners. Open the scanning software on the computer to scan your documents. 
  • Save your scans to your flash drive, send it through your email, or save to Google Drive or other cloud storage. Files saved to the computer will be deleted.

► Computers are available at all campus libraries

  • No login is required for the library computers.
  • Any files saved to the computers will be deleted.
    • Save your work to a flash drive, a cloud storage account or send via email.
  • All computers have the suite of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Many computers have specialized applications needed for course work.
  • All libraries have computer labs that are used by faculty and staff for library instruction sessions and special events.
  • A Nonprofit Resource Center is located in the Mullock Family Library on the Cape May campus and the Information Commons/Library on the Worthington Atlantic City Campus. The centers provide access to a suite of databases from Candid, that help to identify funding sources for nonprofit organizations, grants to individuals, and. GuideStar®  Candid's nonprofit registration database to help donors and volunteers find and support nonprofit organizations. These resources are available on the Cape May County Campus and the Worthington Atlantic City Campus. There is no off-campus access

► Laptop computers available 

  • Laptop computers can be borrowed for use in the library. Your current student ID card and the library provided Laptop Lending User Agreement are required. Available at all campus libraries.

► Private study rooms

  • Private study rooms are available at all campus libraries. if you or your group need a space to work on a project, assignment or just a quiet place to study these rooms are available for your use. No advance reservation is needed.
  • Some of the study rooms in the Mays Landing library contain special collections. These include nursing and large print collections.
  • The Mays Landing campus library has a dedicated room for the LGBTQ+ community with literature, positive messaging, resources and a comfortable space for study.

► Accessibility lab

  • The accessibility lab, located in all campus libraries offers specialized tools and devices for those students in need of additional help using library resources.

  • Screen magnifiers
  • Screen reader software
